Battlemages rely on their armor to defend themselves, but even with armor, magical assistance is often required to weather heavy attacks. While other magical schools focus on avoiding, or magically blocking incoming attacks, battle magic works to dissipate whatever force strikes the body, ideally after armor has softened the blow.
Without armor, a battle magic defense spell is almost useless. It is far more expensive than any other school’s shield spell. With good armor, it becomes more efficient. With great armor, it becomes orders of magnitude more powerful.
