While most healing spells are designed to repair existing wounds, the Lifeshield spell allows a healer to essentially store healing magic within a beneficiary. When that person suffers physical damage, the Lifeshield will immediately take effect, applying some, or all, of its stored healing to repair the damage.
Storing healing energy inside of people is expensive. Consequently, Lifeshield spells are highly inefficient. It is far cheaper to directly apply healing to a wound. As with the Breakward spell, any magical energy spent casting a Lifeshield spell can’t be recovered until the spell has performed its function or has been Dispelled.
