Runecrafting is perhaps the most magical of the hedge arts. In many ways, it’s two separate fields of study.

Enchantment runes are carved into shields, weapons, robes and armor. Commonly, these are used to strengthen items, creating blades that never dull, or more resilient armors, but other effects are available. Flaming weapons, and armor that attunes, forever bonding to a single owner, are not uncommon.

Binding runes are more complicated. They are chiseled into earth and stone, and must be continuous. When filled with the proper blend of gem powder, herbs, potions and other components, highly specific magical effects can be created. For instance, Runes of Protection prevent certain species of creatures from walking through them, while allowing others passage. Runes of Containment allow things to enter the circle, but never leave it. Those are just two recipes. There are dozens.
